Turo is trying to overcome his fears by leading Finland's most obscure heavy metal band, Impaled Rektum, to Norway's most popular metal festival. The journey includes heavy metal, grave robbing, Viking heaven, and an armed conflict between Finland and Norway.
CINDIE SAYS
If This Is Spinal Tap and The Blues Brothers had a love child in the forests of Finland — raised on a steady diet of Immortal, sauna beer, and crippling social anxiety — it would be Heavy Trip. But don’t be fooled by the absurdity: beneath the corpse paint, Heavy Trip is one of the most heartfelt tributes to artistic passion and outsider identity you’ll find in recent cinema. It’s loud, it’s sweet, it’s stupid-smart, and it absolutely shreds.
Directed by Juuso Laatio and Jukka Vidgren, Heavy Trip is more than a satire — it’s a deeply affectionate tribute to metalheads, dreamers, and anyone who’s ever felt out of sync with the world around them. These characters aren’t caricatures; they’re endearingly specific.
The comedy here is deadpan, dry, and laced with just enough absurdism to feel proudly Finnish. Think Aki Kaurismäki meets Wayne’s World, but filtered through frostbite and feedback distortion.
