SYNOPSIS
Ambrose McKinley, a blind and crotchety veteran, moves into a retirement community only to discover that the residents there have not been dying of old age, but from dog attacks. After surviving his own encounter with a canine one night, Ambrose comes to believe that the attackers are much more than just dogs.
CINDIE SAYS:
Werewolf films have long been a staple of horror cinema, from classics like An American Werewolf in London (1981) to more contemporary offerings. Late Phases distinguishes itself by setting its story in an unusual context: a secluded retirement community. This choice allows the film to tackle themes like aging, mortality, and loneliness, which are rarely explored in werewolf movies.
Released in 2014, directed by Adrián García Bogliano, this indie horror film stands out not only because it delivers on traditional werewolf thrills but also because it focuses on an unconventional protagonist: a blind Vietnam War veteran navigating his twilight years in a retirement community under siege by a deadly supernatural force.
