SYNOPSIS
A high school senior finds herself immersed in an online game of truth or dare, where her every move begins to be manipulated by an anonymous community of ‘observers'.
CINDIE SAYS:
Nerve tells the story of Vee (Emma Roberts), a shy high school senior who gets sucked into an online game of “truth or dare” — except there’s no truth, only high-stakes dares.Visually, Nerve is a feast for the eyes. Joost and Schulman, who rose to fame with the documentary Catfish (2010), bring a distinct visual style to the film. Nerve pulses with vibrant neon colors, creating a hyper-realistic, digital aesthetic that mimics the energy of the online world it critiques. The film’s use of color is deliberate, evoking the flashy, sometimes overwhelming world of internet fame. This stylized approach extends to the cinematography, with sweeping drone shots and immersive first-person perspectives that heighten the sense of disorientation and thrill as the game escalates.
