SYNOPSIS
Sarah Morton (Charlotte Rampling), a British author of mystery and crime novels, travels from London to the South of France to spend a few days at the home of her publisher (Charles Dance), in order to rest and find inspiration for her new novel. There she meets her host's teenage daughter, the attractive and unconventional Julie (Ludivine Sagnier).
CINDIE SAYS:
"Ozon’s film pays homage to the works of Alfred Hitchcock and Claude Chabrol, blending elements of psychological thrillers and domestic dramas. Charlotte Rampling delivers a masterful performance as Sarah Morton, capturing her character’s complexity and vulnerability. Ludivine Sagnier’s portrayal of Julie is equally compelling, blending seduction, recklessness, and depth.
Ozon’s direction is a standout feature, showcasing his ability to blend suspense with nuanced character study. His meticulous attention to detail and skillful use of symbolism add layers of meaning to the film. Ozon’s narrative technique, including the ambiguous ending, invites multiple interpretations and discussions, making "The Swimming Pool" a film that lingers in the mind long after viewing.
Cinematographer Yorick Le Saux captures the idyllic beauty of the French countryside, contrasting it with the film’s underlying tension. The titular swimming pool becomes a central visual motif, symbolizing both allure and danger.
Whether you appreciate suspenseful storytelling, complex characters, or visually striking films, The Swimming Pool offers a rich and rewarding viewing experience."
