Former Nat Geo exec Maurice van Sabben joins DMD
Following DMD’s major announcement to create a family-oriented digital content service featuring the world-renowned animal behaviourist and broadcaster Cesar Millan, the company have brought in digital media exec Maurice van Sabben as COO to oversee the company’s operations, strategic partnerships and financing of various projects.
With his experience developing digital media businesses, and his understanding of the Latin American market, Van Sabben’s appointment to DMD’s executive team is another in a series of significant developments coming from the rapidly growing digital content distribution company.
The dutchman spent 4 years at National Geographic Ventures International, leaving in 2012, having significantly expanded the company’s operations outside of the United States. Following this, he founded his own advisory business working with a number of high-growth and blue-chip companies in digital content distribution. In his role at DMD, he will again have a specific focus on working with high growth companies in digital content and also the technology supporting digital content delivery.
DMD Executive Chairman Tony Kelly said: “I have known Maurice over 20 years and seen him develop from a recent business school graduate to an astute executive with a wealth of experience in OTT and SVOD. I am very excited about him joining the team DMD at such a crucial juncture. Building on our TVOD offering we are about to launch our SVOD movie service in Latin America as well as launch a new-style family centred entertainment service with Cesar Millan where families and their pets are central. Maurice’s global outlook, his fluency in Spanish and experience of working in Latin America will be a great asset as we grow our business.”
